Catching Up with Stephanie Storck at PwC - DC!

Greetings from Washington D.C! I hope all is well at Marquette. For those who do not know me, I was last year's ITSO president. I currently work for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the McLean, VA office, also known as the Washington DC metro office. I had an internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2007 and started full time with the Firm this past July. I work as an Information Technology Advisory Associate and absolutely love my job.

I have kept in touch with Professor Ow, and it sounds like ITSO is off to a great start with a highly successful Biznet thanks to the very hard work and dedication of many individual...believe me, I know how hard it is to throw a huge networking event, and this year's surpassed all expectations! I have read every issue of ITSO GOOD this year, and they are all so good. I am also highly impressed with the new ITSO website. IT majors at Marquette University are lucky to have such a vast bundle of resources available to them for networking, finding internships and finding full-time jobs. Another great resource to IT students is the large amount of passionate IT alumni. I'm sure my fellow IT alumni agree with me when I say that we are available to answer any questions you have and we love reaching out and helping in any way we can.

I am very excited about the newly established Marquette - PwC Washington DC relationship. I am highly impressed with the recruiters from both PwC Milwaukee (Angela Helbing) and PwC DC (Kanika Walcott). I have had the chance to meet these two women, who in addition to being great at what they do, are truly passionate about PwC! With the tough economic times our country is going through, I am glad that I have chosen IT as my career path. I feel very secure about my job, and take comfort in not having to worry about being laid off.

I am not only glad I chose IT because I know I will have a job (and a good job at that), but also because I love what I do and I have been given many awesome opportunities even though I've only been with the Firm three months. I am currently studying for the CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) exam, which my company is sponsoring me to take. Also, I have recently been on non-stop travel for work, which has taken me to four states that I had never been to before. I am really enjoying the travel and the ability to see new places.

Although I am not highly interested in the political aspect of Washington D.C., my job has exposed me to a side of government that I am learning to love. I am part of the PwC Washington Federal Practice, which means that I work for federal clients. My job requires me to be up-to-date on all of the federal laws & standards so that I can best serve my clients. The government is highly interested in establishing comprehensive oversight of Information Technology assets in order to protect sensitive information. I enjoy participating in this aspect of the government through my work.

I truly miss Marquette University and the IT department. I take heart in knowing that I left ITSO in the hands of more-than-dependable individuals, and I thank them for their hard work this year and their dedication to the IT department. They have a great and motivational faculty advisor, who was my mentor throughout college. I plan to attend the February networking event and see some familiar and new faces! Good luck to everyone as the semester closes out, and know that I am available to chat about IT or PwC anytime! My email is Stephanie.storck@hotmail.com - don't hesitate!

For now,
Stephanie Storck
President of the ITSO 2007-2008
